This is a full day in the Tunisian Sahara, from early morning to starry night: 16 hours that take you from the troglodyte village of Matmata to the original Star Wars film sets, from the Ksar Ghilane oasis to quad bikes in the dunes. It's a lot packed into one day, and honestly, every bit of it delivers.
We pick you up at your hotel as early as 6:00 AM. Breakfast is included along the way. You'll arrive in Matmata around 9:30 AM, a Berber village where people have lived for centuries in houses carved into the ground to escape the heat. We visit an authentic troglodyte house with its owners, and you'll taste freshly made Berber bread and mint tea.
Then we head to Tatooine, the exact location where George Lucas filmed Star Wars. You'll see the original Luke Skywalker house set, preserved for 40 years. It's as recognisable in person as it is on screen.
At noon, we arrive at the lush oasis of Ksar Ghilane, tucked away in the middle of the desert. A camel ride (45 minutes) through the golden dunes, followed by a traditional Berber lunch at the oasis: grilled meats, salads, fresh fruit. In the afternoon you can relax by the Sahara thermal lake, or try quad biking (optional) toward the ruins of Castle Tisavar.
We head back in the late afternoon with a final stop at sunset. You'll be at your hotel around 10:00 PM, tired in the best way.
